Senator Byron Dorgan, Chairman and Representative Sander Levin, Cochairman

of the

Congressional-Executive Commission on China

invite you to a roundtable discussion on

"Women in a Changing China"

Monday, March 8, 2010

2 to 3:30 p.m.

Rayburn House Office Building, Room B-318

At this CECC Roundtable, a panel of experts will explore the Chinese government's progress and challenges in addressing women's rights issues. China ratified the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women in 1980. Thirty years later, what has been the impact of this commitment? What progress has been made at the central and local level toward greater protection of women's rights? What specific challenges remain?

Panelists:

Rangita de Silva de Alwis, Director of International Human Rights Policy Programs, Wellesley Centers for Women

Katherine Zhao, Division of Social Sciences, University of Chicago and Former Fulbright Fellow

Dr. Mark Lagon, Former Ambassador-At-Large and Director of the Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons (TIP), U.S. Department of State

CECC Roundtables are open to the public and no reservation is required.
